Mauer, Adeline Inez


Adeline Inez Mauer, 90, of Elba, died on Thursday morning, July 25, 2019, at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Adeline was born on May 7, 1929, in Eyota, to Harry and Helen (Smith) Rhodey. She was raised in Plainview. Adeline and Bob Mauer were married in 1948. They made their home in Elba, where they raised their eight children and Bob owned and operated Mauer Brothers Tavern. Adeline was an excellent cook, known for cooking a full meal in a short time without a recipe, particularly her knack for preparing wild game. She also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Whitewater Valley, but the highlight of her last 22 years was the summers she spent with her husband fishing and enjoying their lake cabin near Birchwood, Wis. Adeline was an avid reader and enjoyed going with her daughters to the casino to play slot machines and bingo. Adeline was a faithful member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba and a member the St. Charles American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her husband, Bob; their eight children, Jim (Bernadette) Mauer of Elba, Tom (Sharon) Mauer of Plainview, Nancy Roberts of Elba, Mike (Beth) Mauer of Elba, Diane (Morrie Strain) Mauer of Fairfax, Minn., Susie (Scott) Rell of Hopkins, Lisa (Greg) Thoe of Kasson and Scott (Kim) Mauer of Navarre, Fla.; 18 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and sister, Jeanine Binner of Lake City. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Ivan Roberts; and sisters, Muriel Predmore, Kathryn Mcfarlin, Bernice Herman and Margaret Ziebell.

A Funeral Mass for Adeline will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 29, 2019, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Elba with the Reverend Tim Biren officiating. Burial will follow in St. Aloysius Cemetery. Visitation with family will be from 4-7 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles and from 10-11 a.m. on Monday at the church.
