Slaby, Aloysius ‘Al’

(7/26/2019)

God’s faithful servant Aloysius “Al” Slaby, age 90, passed away peacefully in his home in Waumandee on July 23, 2019. He was born on December 14, 1928, in Arcadia, to Aloysius and Caroline (Woychik) Slaby. Al was united in marriage to Darlene Larson on October 20, 1956, at St. Boniface Catholic Church. To this loving union, four children were born, Roxanne, Joseph, Rosemary, and Paul.

Al was an honest hard-working man, a faithful Catholic, and a devoted husband, father, and Papa. Al was a trucker by trade and worked for Benusa Trucking before becoming the proud owner of Slaby Trucking from 1957 to 1984. Finding joy in his work he continued trucking for Garden Valley, Slaby Construction, and Slaby Septic Service. In his later years, he was a dedicated courier for the Waumandee State Bank until 2017. Al was a social man who enjoyed road trips with family and friends, including annual vacations to Northern Wisconsin. He always enjoyed car rides through the valleys so he could share stories about three generations of property owners. Al was an avid deer hunter for over 60 years. He was also a member of the National Guard, Catholic Order of Foresters, Knights of Columbus and both the Waumandee Lion’s Club and Fire Department.

Al is survived by his wife, Darlene, of 62 years; children, Roxanne Anderson along with her sons Derek (Diana), and Jordan (Payton), Joe (Jenny) and their daughters Torey, Carley, Zoey, and Maddey, Rosemary (Tim) Burt and their children Matt (Nicole), Adam, Sarah, and Andrew, and Paul (Barb) and their children Ben (Liz), Courtney, and Jacob; and four great-grandchildren, Makenna and Greyson Anderson, and Connor and Emma Burt. He is further survived by sisters-in-law, Alice Breitung, Clarice Larson, and Shirley Larson; brother-in-law, Junior Larson; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Jeff Anderson; sister, Maxine; and multiple brothers and sisters-in-law.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Waumandee with Fr. Prince A. Raja, Fr. Paul Breza, and Fr. Sebastian Kolodziejczyk as celebrants. A visitation will take place on Friday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the church and from 11:30 a.m. until the service on Saturday. Burial will follow at the St. Boniface Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials, in the name of Al Slaby, may be directed to St. Boniface Church or School. The family would like to thank all of Al’s special caregivers, and the community for their support.
