Harley Thomas (Tom) Jones, age 89, of Winona, Minn., passed away on July 11, 2019, at his home. He was born on August 27, 1929, in Richland Center, Wis.
Tom lived life to the fullest and left no stone unturned. Growing up on a farm, he learned the meaning of hard work. He was proud to tell people that he always had a job from his days on the farm until his final retirement in 2007 at 78 years old. He was a man with a variety of talents and skills, many self-taught. A born salesman, he sold everything from cookware and vacuum cleaners to cars and real estate. Also, an accomplished mechanic, he could fix almost anything. His work and sense of adventure took him from Wisconsin to Michigan, Alaska, Arizona, and Minnesota. He was blessed with a positive attitude and said he never had a job he didn’t like.
In December 1949, Tom married Caryle Anderson. Together they had five children. In 2001, Tom married Marlys Moore at Moose, Wy., in Grand Teton National Park.
Tom’s survivors include his wife, Marlys Moore Jones, Winona, Minn.; son, Roger (Deb) Jones, Strawberry Plains, Tenn.; daughters, Cher (Michael) Nelson of Wisconsin Dells, Wis., Bonnie Jones of Rochester, Minn., and Shellie (Stan) Colegrove of Wasilla, Ak.; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Francis (Lil) Jones, La Crosse, Wis.; sister, Delores (Arnold) Wagaman, Kenai, Ak.; sister-in-law, Melody Moore, Mazomanie, Wis.; brother-in-law, Harold Tracy, Janesville; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Jones; brothers, John and Wally Jones; sisters, Anna Buroker, Mary Foglia, and Mardella Tracy; and his first wife, Caryle.
A celebration of Tom’s life will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 27, 2019, his 90th birthday, at Fawcett Junker Funeral Home and Crematory, Winona, Minn. Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. The memorial service will be followed by a lunch at the funeral home.
