Angeline R. “Nellie” Nowicki, age 104, of Minnesota City, MN, died on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at Lake Winona Manor.
Nellie was born on February 22, 1906, in Fried, ND, to Waldo and Mary Anna (Wolski) Bandar. On August 21, 1934, she was united in marriage with Leo Anton “Larry” Nowicki at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Winona. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1967.
She was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church, its St. Ann’s Guild, and Rosary and Sacred Heart Societies. She also took an active role in organizing the St. Stan’s Fall Festival. Nellie was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Winona Court #191, Polish Heritage, St. Anne Extended Healthcare Auxiliary, Harvest House and Westfield Golf Club.
Nellie enjoyed golfing, playing cards, bowling, traveling and fishing. She was an avid gardener and Minnesota Twins fan. Nellie will be remembered as a fun person who loved and enjoyed life to its fullest. She was extremely proud of her nieces and nephews, who were like “her children.”
Nellie is survived by her sister, Lucille “Bunny” Mahaffey, Minnesota City, MN; nieces and nephews, Denis (Kathy) Mahaffey, Sharon (Gary) Knouft, Marie (Tim) Kwosek, Gary Mahaffey (special friend, Lynn), Ken (Kathy) Gahnz, Dr. Bob (Pat) Gahnz, Becky (Jim) Cook, Barbara (Chuck) Henkel and Bill (Karen) Bandar; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother and two sisters; and great-niece, Missy Kwosek.
A Mass of Christian Burial was Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. Monsignor Roy E. Literski officiated.
Nellie was laid to rest in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
