Chair, Garvin Brook Disaster Relief Fund
The Garvin Brook Disaster Relief Fund organization would like to express heartfelt thanks to the residents of Winona and surrounding areas for the generous donations of winter apparel last week. Once again you came to the aid of your neighbors and friends in an overwhelming way. And you did it in less than a week!
We had beautiful and warm items for all that came on Saturday morning, December 15, to pick and choose from. The number of families served that day was 80. We would like to publicly thank the following places and individuals for their part in this project to help those that lost personal items in the flooding in August. Winona Daily News, Winona Radio, Winona Post, Pleasant Valley Church (for the donation of toys), Redeemer Lutheran Church, First Baptist Church Ladies Aid (for quilts), membership of AAUW, First Lutheran Church in Minnesota City (for coat racks and hangers), Riverway Learning Community (for hosting the drive), Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, many local business that posted the flyer, local churches that put announcements in their bulletins, and volunteers, Jaye Fritz, Gen O'Grady, Nancy Beech, Karen Schultz, Samantha Beech, Joyce Beard, Marvin O'Grady, Stephanie Scharmer, Brenda Edwards, Mary Jo Murray, La Vern Fritz, Daryl Multhaup, Connie Greethurst. Also thank you to those that gave monetary donations. We were able to give gift certificates for winter items still needed, such as the right size boots.
It was yet another successful coming together of community. Thank you all.
