Be careful about pointing a finger

From: A.W. Iseman

A Mr. Rupkey has frequently written letters to the editor, defending his and others' gay lifestyle. In his latest, he attacked Catholic church teachers who uphold the Church's belief that sex outside marriage is sinful. The Church has held this belief for thousands of years. Rupkey says these teachers are haters. Haters of what? Sin? Sinners? Another teaching of the Church is that one should hate sin, but love the sinner. Granted, this is difficult to do. Take Hitler, for example. How do you hate his sins, and not hate the man? Yet this is what Jesus expects of us - to hate the sin, but love the sinner.

When I was much younger, I learned that when you point an accusing finger at someone, there are three pointing back at yourself. Every time I read Rupkey's letters, I get a distinct feeling that he hates the Church as well as the Church's teaching. Well, Mr. Rupkey, you've got three fingers pointing back at yourself.
