In memory of my Dad at Christmas, Milton Ellinghuysen

(12/23/2012)

Dear Dad,

As I look back over the years

of all the Christmas Eves together,

memories start pouring in.

I guess as we get older we realize

just how much the ones we miss

and love so dearly played such an

important part in our lives.

“The sad thing is we thought”

we had forever to share these

wonderful times together...

But time went too fast.

So as I sat inside my truck

in the farm yard I opened the

window and listened, there were

no voices to be heard. All was

silent. But yet I could actually

envision you and ma and us kids

and grandpa and grandma doing

things on the farm.

Then again the silence came back

So as I sat there I started out of the

blue to put words into a song. I

called it “I Can’t Go Home for

Christmas anymore...”

Children smiling gayly

Dad he’s kissing Ma, underneath the mistletoe

Right next to the tree

Presents all sprawled out on the floor

as my eyes gaze softly toward the door

I can’t go home for Christmas anymore

‘Cause there’s no one there to greet me at the door

I can’t go home for Christmas anymore

‘Cause there’s no one left to greet me at the door

As I turn the lights all off and I gaze at the memories on

the walls

as the tears flow softly down my cheeks

I look up to heaven and I speak

I can’t go home for Christmas anymore

‘Cause there’s no one there to greet me at the door

I can’t go home for Christmas anymore

‘Cause there’s no one left to greet me at the door...

I miss you Dad and Merry Christmas,

Love, your Bonnie
