Stop being critical! It seems to be part of our inheritance to be critical. Last week we concluded that God dwells in Christians. We are His temples. That is a great and mighty wonder! Being aware of His presence we need to be careful not to give others a false picture because of our “over-critcal-ness!” If you are a homemaker, you can easily be so critical of your children that they will go through life just thinking they are no good. So too fellow men with whom you associate may be turned off by your critical-ness and give place to our Lord in their lives because of your constant criticisms. Yes we want to encourage others in the Lord, but not in order that they can withstand our criticism.

There is a noteworthy word in Paul’s first letter to the Thessalonians. Paul was beheaded as far as history knows about the same time Peter was crucified upside down by the Romans, and like Timothy and several of the other Christian leaders, was treated with the utmost contempt and criticism. Chapter 5:10-11 reads: “Christ who died for us that we might live with Him” therefore encourage one another and build one another up.

If anyone ever received rough treatment it was the Thessalonians and Paul. Ignoring their critics, Paul tells them to put on the helmet of salvation and the breast plate of righteousness. So put on your helmet; get it straight in your head how you are saved by grace and know in your heart you are covered by the righteousness earned for you by the Lord Who was born, lived, died, and rose again; and, Who now lives in you as His dwelling place.

We pledge to stop being so critical in 2014 and write for you to join us! You might also want to say a prayer for our president who is having a tough time trying to understand and lead America, which is still a great hope among the nations of the world.

Paul said it. Believe it! “Encourage one another and build one another up.”

P.S. Next week “The Three O’s in God.”
