Christianity is not a fantasy: Once saved, always saved; facing temptations

From: Lynette Palecek

You can be sure that you are saved as these scriptures show. In John 10:27-29, Jesus Christ says “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.” John 11:25,26 says “...I am the Resurrection and the Life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die...” Jesus Christ says in John 5:24 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death into life.” See Rom. 8:38,39 I John 5:11,12 says “And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.”

These scriptures show what to do when you are faced with temptations after you’re saved. I Cor. 10:13b says “but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” I Peter 5:8,9 says “Be sober,be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” See John 16:33 and James 1:12. Phil. 4:13 says “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.”

Here are some things you should do when sins occur. I John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Also see II Chron. 7:14, Prov. 28:13, Isaiah 55:7, and I John 2:1.

Next Sunday I’ll write about the importance of prayer, how to grow as a Christian, and the importance of fellowship with other Christians.
