The Army Corps of Engineers has a plan to again truck dredged sand over our highways to locations in our area. This time it is doing so by way of planning to buy land and avoid any local or state government say so in how this is done.
The plan is at this website: http://bit.ly/2qWuwhr.
There is a deadline of June 9 for public comment on the draft Environmental Assessment. That is on the corps’ website and contains a 156-page document along with eight maps, etc., as attachments.
I’m not sure what pollutants will be in the dredged sand. It will be trucked along Highway 35 affecting the Alma, Nelson and Cochrane areas. Nothing is known about how many trucks will be doing this or when. A large dump site would be along Highway 35 where County Road N intersects. It seems that most traffic will be out of the Alma Marina going north and south to locations along 35.
Please take a look at this and get your opinion in to the Army Corps of Engineers.
