From: The Board of American Maikido
Lee Stoltman, Kevin Burke, and Aaron Johnson
Greetings to past and present Maikido Club members. This letter is to invite you to the upcoming club banquet. The free dinner and celebration will be held on Friday, September 29, at the Eagle’s Club in Winona. The banquet program will include musical entertainment by local artist Sean Burke, and speakers will present short topics related to self-defense. Rank advancement and special awards will also be presented. This family event will be from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Our club is a Minnesota nonprofit organization committed to helping members of the community through the practice of Maikido, a modern martial art form that follows a scientific approach to self-defense, while encouraging the development of character. Christian principles permeate the philosophy and teaching methods of this art. For over 36 years, the club has thrived. The instructors have traditionally donated their time and skills helping make the class affordable for anyone. The club currently operates through Winona Community Education. Classes are on Monday and Thursday evenings in the basement of Jefferson Elementary at 6:30 p.m. There is a link to Community Education on our website. Maikido was founded in 1976 by Master Joseph Chia and was introduced to Winona State University in 1981.
Through generous donations this year by Celanese International, the Eagle’s Club, and assistance from the Winona Community Foundation, we were able to purchase new training mats and safety equipment. Thank you all for your assistance! We greatly appreciate the donations we have received. Our goal for the year is to purchase more safety equipment and to build a general fund for overhead expenses.
