Volunteers, support made WMS History Fair a success

From: Cory Hanson, Brenda Svendsen, and Cody Weadge

Congratulations to the 150 students who presented 108 projects for the Winona Middle School History Fair. The fair would not have been able to take place without such a great group of judges, including Winona Area Public Schools teachers, Winona State University football players, Winona State University education students, Saint Mary’s University students, Winona County Historical Society volunteers, and community volunteers. The 75 judges teamed up to evaluate and provide feedback to all 108 student projects. Their comments and feedback are crucial to the history fair process. Thank you also to Winona Middle School maintenance staff for preparing the facilities and the time it took to clean up after the event. The refreshments provided by the Winona Middle School food and nutrition staff were wonderful, and thank you to the Winona Middle School PTA for supporting the purchase of refreshments for the over 400 people in attendance. Thank you to the parents for bringing students back to school to setup and again for the judging process.

Students will receive their feedback and approximately one-quarter of students will move forward to the regional competition at Winona State. We would like to thank the Foundation for Winona Area Public Schools and the Winona Eagles Club for supporting our students as they continue toward the regional and state competitions by helping pay for the entry fees to these competitions.

The night was a successful showcase of the work students have completed through the first part of this school year. We look forward to the continued support and expansion of this program in Winona Area Public Schools.
