Thanks for helping make HCO’s ‘The Little Mermaid’ a success

From: Roderick Baker
Home and Community Options board president

“Watch and you’ll see/Someday I’ll be/Part of your world.” Ariel’s words in Home and Community Options’ (HCO) recent production of Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” reverberate within the agency’s mission since 1975: to provide support and residential services to individuals with development disabilities in order to enable individuals to live as full members of their communities.

Today, individuals with developmental disabilities are active and contributing members of our community and an important “part of our world.” In this year’s production, over 70 individuals served by HCO played valued roles ranging from cast members and backstage crew members, to emcees and lobby artists, to ushers and greeters. For 21 years, Home and Community Options’ annual musical continues to bring the agency’s mission to life.

On behalf of the HCO Board of Directors, thanks are in order for many, many people. We are grateful to the over 2,000 community members who attended the sold-out performances. The cheers and standing ovations each night reinforced the joy felt by all in attendance. We thank the hundreds of volunteers who contributed thousands of hours over many months to bring the show to fruition. Thank you to our musical directors, cast, crew, costumers, set builders, painters, and all those “behind the scenes.” Thank you to Saint Mary’s University Page Theatre and its staff for being a tremendous host for the event, and thank you to all our donors, who contributed over $93,000! The generosity from all of you is vital in supporting HCO’s programs in our area.

Every minute volunteered, every dollar given, and every moment together brings fulfillment to HCO’s mission. Thank you for helping bring Ariel’s words to life!
