The Bible has been described as a document of “Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth.” It is God’s Word breathed out of eternity into time (II Tim. 3:16). Peter explained that holy men of God wrote as they were moved by the Holy Spirit (II Peter 1:21). More Bibles have been printed in more languages than any other book. Even more amazing is that it was written over a period of 1,500 years by 40 different authors from different walks of life, and yet there are no contradictions. No other book can make that claim.
We are told that faith comes by hearing God’s Word (Romans 10:17) and that it is beneficial for teaching doctrine, rebuking and correcting, and instructing how God wants us to live. The Psalmist said, “Blessed is the person who doesn’t listen to the advice of ungodly people, but who delights in God’s Word and meditates on it” (Psalm 1). You will only grow in your faith “as you desire the pure milk and meat of God’s Word” (I Peter 2:2). It may be ancient, but it’s alive and powerful, differentiating between human rationale and God’s truth (Hebrews 4:12). It will cleanse your thoughts and the intents of your heart. It will help you overcome the temptations and deceptions of this world. “Be strong in the Lord and gird the loins of our minds with God’s truth” (Ephesians 6: 10, 14, and 1 Peter 1:13). Make God’s Word a part of your life.
