Bay State Milling has been in Winona for 120 years and has been a client of Winona Agency for over 50 years. Both of these relationships are extraordinary, considering how often businesses come and go in the marketplace today. I have personally worked with Bay State Milling, providing insurance and risk management, for 25 of those years. In my experience, Bay State Milling is a first-class company that operates with complete integrity and genuine care for its Winona community.
The company is still innovative in what is a very old industry — unusual and impressive after 120 years in business! It has developed a new, high-fiber wheat flour with the potential to positively impact the health of millions of people. The Winona Mill is Bay State’s largest and most flexible mill, allowing them to introduce this new product to the marketplace.
A new warehouse is necessary for Bay State to innovate and continue to grow. As a result, it will be adding jobs, securing its current workforce, and increasing the city of Winona’s real estate tax base. These and many other benefits are very positive for the city and I believe we should support Bay State’s plans.
I would respectfully ask the Winona City Council to continue to support Bay State’s extraordinary relationship with the city and grant its request.
