Regional Science Fair director
We’ve wrapped up another regional round of student-led scientific research in Southeast Minnesota and Western Wisconsin on May 17. The science fair season began with local competition at numerous middle schools throughout the region followed by our regional fair here in Winona on February 23. Congratulations to all the local and regional student researchers. A small selection of those junior and senior projects advanced to the Minnesota Academy of Science State Science and Engineering Fair in early April: from Cotter Schools, Junior Division Hannah Casselman, Bethany Finnegan, Natalya Franz, Olivia Moore, Elizabeth Nagel, and Senior Division Morgan Arnold; from Winona Middle School, Molly Heinert and Sarah Sheridan; from Mankato West High, Maddie Ceminsky, and from La Crescent Middle School, Julia Halvorson, Hallie Hoiness, Anna Reis, and Theo Rosendahl.
Carlyn Frie, from Cochrane Fountain City High School, advanced to the Badger State Science and Engineering Fair in Milwaukee, Wis., and just this past week she represented our region at the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Phoenix, Ariz.
A special thanks to the individuals and businesses for sponsoring student state registrations, awards, and travel and lodging expenses for our ISEF candidate, and several anonymous donors. Without them and their support our fair would not be possible.
