Executive director, Project FINE
June 20 was World Refugee Day, an international holiday that is unknown to many. This day was established by the United Nations to honor the courage, strength and determination of women, men and children who are forced to flee their homes under threat of persecution, conflict and violence.
This day is near and dear to my heart, as I came to this country as a refugee from Bosnia and Herzegovina more than 25 years ago. Those of us who come to the United States as refugees are forever grateful for the opportunity to build a new life and we will always remember the kindness and compassion of this great nation.
It is my honor to be able to pay this kindness forward through my work at Project FINE, and I commend our community leaders and residents for their welcoming spirit.
Thank you for your support of our newest neighbors and for creating an inclusive community.
