Recent mass shootings have stirred cries for more gun control and banning of assault weapons. But what about cars that have mowed down pedestrians and the planes that killed thousands in the 911 attack? So let’s ban guns, cars, and planes. Let’s embrace the Green New Deal, save the planet and everyone get a bicycle.
Come on! The problem is not guns, cars or planes. IT’S PEOPLE!
It’s not just mental illness. It’s a moral and spiritual sickness called sin. The prophet Jeremiah wrote that the heart is deceitful and desperately wicked. Isaiah says those who reject God are like the troubled sea which cannot rest. It’s waters stir up mire and dirt. There is no peace, says God to the wicked.
But Jesus Christ is in the business of changing hearts and lives. He bore our sin on the cross that we might be forgiven and made right with God. The apostle Paul wrote, “If anyone is in Christ he [or she] is a new person. He replaces fear with faith, despair with hope, and hatred with love. He stands at the door of our hearts knocking and waiting to be invited in.”
Don’t keep Him standing on the porch. He will fill you with his love, joy, and peace. Jesus Christ is the answer to all of our problems as a nation and personally. Think about it.
