In response to the ongoing furor over chronic wasting disease (CWD), I suggest folks attend the free, informational meeting on Thursday, September 19, at 7 p.m. in the Rushford-Peterson School Auditorium. This meeting is sponsored by the Winona, Houston, and Fillmore County farm bureaus.
Bryan Richards will be the featured speaker and is also the emerging disease coordinator at the United States Geological Survey (USGS) National Wildlife Health Center in Madison, Wis. He will discuss the basic characteristics of CWD and how they impact the potential for successful deer management, documented disease distribution and prevalence trends, and recent science updates. There will be time for questions and discussion after his presentation.
Whether you are a landowner, farmer, concerned citizen, or hunter, the spread of CWD will affect all residents of Southeast Minnesota. Please consider attending for accurate and up-to-date information on this fatal and contagious neurodegenerative disease.
