Matter of Faith: Guilty

(11/25/2019)

Everyone innately knows they sin and the guilt of that sin. The Bible tells us: “...behold, ye have sinned against the LORD; and be sure your sin will find you out,” (Numbers 32:23). While the truth about your sin problem is bad news, keep reading for the good news.

First it is important to understand the Bible is the Word of God, not the word of men. The Bible tells us God’s law and the bad news is you have broken God’s law and that is called sin. “Whoever committeth sin transgresseth the law: for sin is the transgression of the law,” (1John 3:4).

One example of a sin and how you have broken God’s law is when you told a lie. God says clearly in His Word not to lie: “Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another,” (Leviticus 19:11). Yet man lies: “...let God be true, but every man a liar,” (Romans 3:4). How many times does one have to lie to become a liar? One! Therefore you are a sinner and you will be held personally accountable to God for every single sin you have committed in thought, word and deed. When judged, you will receive exactly what you earned for your sins: “For the wages of sin is death...” (Romans 6:23).

When you physically die, which is your first death, your soul leaves your body and you will stand before God to be judged for all the sins committed in your lifetime: “And I saw a great white throne, and Him that sat on it ... And I saw the dead, great and small, stand before God; and the books were opened ... and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works,” (Revelation 20:11, 12). After you have been truthfully judged by a just and righteous God and declared guilty, you will be appropriately sentenced: “...all liars shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death,” (Revelation 21:8). As horrible as this will be, there will be no hope of ever getting out: “And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever...” (Revelation 14:11).

You might say you don’t believe the Bible; Jesus says: “He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: The word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day,” (John 12:48). That’s the bad news for the unbeliever who continues to reject God; now the good news.

You can have all your sins forgiven the very second you believe the good news God has for you: “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us,” (Romans 5:8). “In whom [Christ] we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins,” (Colossians 1:14). “For he [God] hath make him [Christ] to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him,” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Make that faith choice today; God wants “...all men to be saved, and come unto the knowledge of the truth,” (1 Timothy 2:4), and spend all eternity with Him. Now that truly is good news!
