In writing this letter, I am not trying to defend President Trump in his use of language during a recent staff meeting. But I must tell you, upon landing in Viet Nam and stepping off the plane, the word “sh—hole” was spoken by many. In fact, the smell never left most of us, and there was a lot of colorful language used to describe the country. The reality of living in a third-world country is vastly different than reading from a textbook. The reason so many people want to come here is America has the rule of law. Here, you can better yourself depending on your own abilities, and not your father’s. People come here because it is better than where they were. They’re seeking the American dream: a better life, a better home. Things are not available in their country of birth.
