Long ago, King Solomon wrote: “The fear of the LORD is the starting point and goal of wisdom; understanding comes from knowing God, the Holy One,” (Proverbs 9:10). In anticipation of the next election, political rhetoric is heating up. Politicians are claiming to know how to fix the nation’s problems, solve our crisis, strengthen our economy and promote peace. Do you know what? A lot of it, if not all, is foolishness to God (I Corinthians 3:18).
James 3:15 reminds us that human wisdom is limited, self-seeking and demonic (deceitful, divisive, destructive and boastful). Hate speech is sadly becoming more prevalent and acceptable, both in the political and public arena. It often tends to character assassination, the ruining of a person’s reputation, and, for some, it can lead to suicide.
James goes on to say that “the wisdom from above is first of all pure, then peace-loving, gentle, not demanding its own way, full of mercy and good deeds, respectful and sincere.” The world needs this kind of wisdom. I want it and I hope you do, too.
Where is it to be found? It is found in Jesus Christ, the only wise God our Savior. Get to know Him, He waits for you to invite Him into your life.
