Bike Rules can be confusing

but not following them can be dangerous

With summer in full swing, Winona's streets, paths and sidewalks are teeming with bicycles of every size. On the heels of another bicycle-car collision last week, a refresher course on the bicycle and motorist laws in Winona may help avert a future tragedy when a bicycle and vehicle meet unexpectedly in an intersection.

Huge cottonwood comes down

A massive tree, rumored to have been standing in Chief Wapasha's summer campground 15 decades ago, met its match last week as chain saws brought down limb after limb of the hulking giant.

School Board to look at Supt. evaluation

The District 861 School Board met Tuesday to define "aims" for 2002 to 2004 and determine what process they will use to evaluate Superintendent Eric Bartleson next month.

Policemen, citizen credited for evacuating residents from burning building

Two Winona police officers and a Winona resident are credited for their quick thinking in evacuating seven tenants of an apartment house at Sixth and Franklin streets that was engulfed in flames early Wednesday morning.
