Residue of oil found
in Weaver Bottoms
Officials attribute it to oil breakdown,
dredging
A duck hunter who boated Weaver Bottoms and its backwaters
Saturday documented foamy residue swirling to the water's surface
in water judged to be safe and free of oil after cleanup crews
had left the area following an oil spill Nov. 13.
Duck hunter Jim Bambeneck took this photo of foamy residue
floating in the water at Bosford's Cut, near Weaver Bottoms,
Saturday Morning. About 1,000 gallons of fuel oil was spilled
just three miles upriver from this site Nov. 13 as a U.S. Army
Corps of engineers dredging vessel refueled. (Photo by Jim Bambeneck)
