5:30 pm Artist's Reception
Winona resident and artist, Dirk Nelson, is exhibiting a collection of his monotypes in the Ben Miller Lobby of the Page Theatre at Saint Mary’s University in Winona, MN. The exhibit runs from Jan 14 – Feb 7, 2013. Nelson’s images all deal with the human figure. The methods he uses to apply the ink to the plate result in distorted and abstract forms. “My work is process oriented. I like to use tools and materials that are difficult to control and that involve improvisation, chance, and gesture. The images show the viscosity of the ink, and brush and tool marks. The process is not hidden, the images are not perfect, thus the title of the exhibit Ungemmed, Unhidden.” The public is invited to meet the artist at a reception to be held in the lobby on Thursday Jan. 17, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.
