Jeet Kune Do is a practical martial art for self defense based on Chinese gung fu, Western Boxing and more. Also included is Filipino Martial Arts. All manner of weapons are practiced, knives, sticks and Filipino boxing which has everything that is in Western boxing plus all of the illegal stuff! This is for combat, not sport.

5:00 pm 33rd Annual Cotter Auction
Cheers to 100 years! Join Cotter Schools for the Birthday Bash of a Century by attending the 2012 Cotter Auction! The 33rd Annual Cotter Auction 2012 will be held on Saturday, April 28th, at the John Nett Recreation Center, 360 Vila Street at the Cotter Campus. This year’s theme is Birthday Bash in honor of Cotter’s 100th birthday. There will be a silent auction, live auction, and food & drinks. Doors open at 5pm. The Live Auction begins at 7:30pm. Reservations are $15 in advance or $20 at the door. Reservation price includes bid number, auction book, hors d’oeuvres, and drink token. Auction admission reservations are available at the Advancement Office at Cotter Schools from 8am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday, or register online. 515 - The Tour is a theatrical presentation of 515 laws in Minnesota that discriminate against same-sex couples. 60 minutes, free and open to the public.
515 - The Tour is a show that brings a serious message to people who otherwise may never hear about it. We hope to change the state of dialogue in MN around the subject of same-sex equality. 515 presents a vision of a world of equality where all families are equally valued and respected under the law and in their homes, neighborhoods, workplaces and communities.

8:00 am Low-Cost High Tunnel Construction Workshop
Winona County is announcing a “Low-Cost High Tunnel Construction Workshop” that will take place on Saturday May 5th from 8:30am – 5:30pm at Winona County’s Stone Point Market Gardens. This will be a public workshop to share the knowledge and experience of constructing a season-extending high tunnel greenhouse.
Growing produce in the upper Midwest has its challenges, but innovative growers everywhere are finding solutions. Season-extending high tunnels, also called hoop houses, provide the opportunity to start crops earlier and extend the harvest later. These structures, made from galvanized steel posts and polyethylene film, trap solar energy and provide protection from wind and rain. Construction will be led by Charley Hatch of the Women’s Environmental Institute in North Branch, MN.
The workshop will start with an overview of high tunnel construction to provide attendees with schematics and all the information needed for construction of their own high tunnel. Every step in the process, from pounding posts and bending hoops to constructing end pieces and installing plastic film will be demonstrated and participants are encouraged to take part to have a hands-on learning experience. 9:00 am Artwork on display at Winona Public Library
Local artist Monica Veraguth is displaying works of art at the Winona Public Library throughout May and June in the Bell Art Room located on the second floor. A variety of subjects are presented, including many local landscapes, regionally inspired landscapes along with a small selection of expressionistic pieces. The event is free and open to the public.
Veraguth is a self-taught impressionist artist primarily focusing on Winona area landscapes. Emphasizing exaggerated colors, while creating striking contrast that evokes a mystery and moodiness that arouses emotion. Her works often feature a very limited color palette creating simplistic scenes that are most captivating.
She has previously been commissioned to illustrate two classic novels for an independent publishing company. As well as being published in a dark fantasy/horror book series titled “Dark Highlands Anthology.”
Her work has been shown extensively throughout Winona and beyond; in art galleries, business offices, coffee shops, among other venues including juried art exhibitions and art festivals. Her paintings are also held in many private collections.
