Local artist Monica Veraguth is displaying works of art at the Winona Public Library throughout May and June in the Bell Art Room located on the second floor. A variety of subjects are presented, including many local landscapes, regionally inspired landscapes along with a small selection of expressionistic pieces. The event is free and open to the public. Veraguth is a self-taught impressionist artist primarily focusing on Winona area landscapes. Emphasizing exaggerated colors, while creating striking contrast that evokes a mystery and moodiness that arouses emotion. Her works often feature a very limited color palette creating simplistic scenes that are most captivating. She has previously been commissioned to illustrate two classic novels for an independent publishing company. As well as being published in a dark fantasy/horror book series titled “Dark Highlands Anthology.” Her work has been shown extensively throughout Winona and beyond; in art galleries, business offices, coffee shops, among other venues including juried art exhibitions and art festivals. Bruce Lee's martial art of Jeet Kune Do has come to Winona. Experience authentic Jeet Kune at the Winona Senior High School every Tuesday and Saturday. Jeet Kune Do is a practical martial art for self defense based on Chinese gung fu, Western Boxing and more. Also included is Filipino Martial Arts. All manner of weapons are practiced, knives, sticks and Filipino boxing which has everything that is in Western boxing plus all of the illegal stuff! This is for combat, not sport.
