5:00 pm The Stars of Bethlehem at Ed's (no name) Bar
The "Stars of Bethlehem" is a concept created by Jim Trouten and brought to life by his friends, Rob Ristow, Scott Lochner, Kyle Gruhlke, Amanda Kempner and Aleah Zuccarelli-Harvey. I will admit that after about 2 hours of listening to local radio that Christmas music had already gotten annoying...HOWEVER, I quickly came to realize that it is because we are so used to listening to the same recordings of it year after year! ...and even though it is a "Christmas" event, I will say that I'm not very religious, and you need-not be either. The holiday can be really fun and really dorky. Hey, you don't need to be Irish to enjoy St. Patrick's day, why do you need to be Christian to enjoy Christmas? My question is: "How often do you see a live band performing Christmas music in person?" Rarely if ever! Here's your chance to be a part of something that has never happened before! The event is as follows: The first performance will be from 5pm-7pm at Ed's Pub. Please, PLEASE wear the Christmassiest clothing you have! Ugly sweaters are not only encouraged, but requested! Ed will be serving hot chocolate and eggnog--hopefully both will be spiked! The second performance will be from 10pm-12am. Please, PLEASE wear the Christmassiest clothing you have! Ugly sweaters are not only encouraged, but requested! Ed will be serving hot chocolate and eggnog--hopefully both will be spiked! Participation in this special event will be remembered for a lifetime! If you have never seen live music at Ed's bar or if you feel like you've seen it all before, this is your chance to bear witness to something that I think I can honestly say, you have never seen. Wednesday, December 23, 5pm-7pm and 10pm-12am at Ed's. (corner of 3rd and Franklin Streets in Winona) INVITE YOUR FRIENDS ! ! ! Happy Holidays!

9:00 pm New Year's Eve at Ed's with the Sugarloa
Join the Sugarloaf Gang, aka the Island City Warlocks, aka Live Jazz featuring some of Winona's best young(er) jazz musicians. We'll be playing a mix of jazz, funk, rock, blues, reggae, electronic/dance, and whatever other styles/genres this band is capable of playing. So if you have a request, let one of us know and we'll see what we can do. And of course, "Auld Lang Syne" will be played when the clock strikes midnight. The music will be brought to you by... Alan Rewitzer, trumpet and flugelhorn Heidi Miller, euphonium and trombone Chris Peters, guitar Frank Merchlewitz, keyboards Justin Smith, bass Karl Brueggemann, drums Playing an opening set will be Dan & Dusty! We're excited to have them share the stage with us on this holiday, but we're bummed that it is Dustin Skelley's last appearance here in a while, as he will be traveling to Bangladesh(!) very shortly after. Come out and say goodbye to Dusty too as you celebrate the end of 2009. If all the great music and festivities weren't enough, there will be appetizers from Chong's Noodle House available, and a champagne toast at midnight! Hope to see you all at Ed's for New Year's Eve, as we bring in 2010!
