9:00 pm New Year's Eve at Ed's with the Sugarloa
Join the Sugarloaf Gang, aka the Island City Warlocks, aka Live Jazz featuring some of Winona's best young(er) jazz musicians. We'll be playing a mix of jazz, funk, rock, blues, reggae, electronic/dance, and whatever other styles/genres this band is capable of playing. So if you have a request, let one of us know and we'll see what we can do. And of course, "Auld Lang Syne" will be played when the clock strikes midnight. The music will be brought to you by... Alan Rewitzer, trumpet and flugelhorn Heidi Miller, euphonium and trombone Chris Peters, guitar Frank Merchlewitz, keyboards Justin Smith, bass Karl Brueggemann, drums Playing an opening set will be Dan & Dusty! We're excited to have them share the stage with us on this holiday, but we're bummed that it is Dustin Skelley's last appearance here in a while, as he will be traveling to Bangladesh(!) very shortly after. Come out and say goodbye to Dusty too as you celebrate the end of 2009. If all the great music and festivities weren't enough, there will be appetizers from Chong's Noodle House available, and a champagne toast at midnight! Hope to see you all at Ed's for New Year's Eve, as we bring in 2010!

7:00 pm Local Author Emilio DeGrazia
For Immediate Release: Local Winona Author Emilio DeGrazia reads from his newest work on Wednesday, January 13th at 7:00 p.m. "Walking on Air in a Field of Greens: An Italian- American Collage" Those looking to melt away the frozen January blues with the warming touch of Italy might want to join us for a reading from Emilio DeGrazia's new book, Walking on Air in a Field of Greens, on Wednesday, January 13, at 7 p.m. DeGrazia's book, a "collage" of pieces written over the span of thirty years, explores the meaning of family, immigration, and place through the stained glass windows of imagination and memory. "The pieces in this collection," says DeGrazia, "are all 'essays'--attempts to explore how I remember, feel, and live my life as transplant and hybrid in whom San Pietro--a village in the deep south of Italy, its people, and its very old fig tree--is still very much alive in me. These essays are also literary hybrids--the result not only of objective observation but of the mysterious way memory works on imagination." In order to authenticate the experience, DeGrazia's assistant, Bruno ("Igor") Borsari, a recent transplant from Italy, will assist in the reading, taking the major role as Pepe in a dramatic piece entitled, "The Warrior and His Bride."
