The Winona Chapter of the American Cancer Society and Community Memorial Hospital will present the Look Gooeed - Feel Better Program to area women who are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment currently or within the last six months.
The Look Good - Feel Better Program will be held at Community Memorial Hospital, Lake Winona Manor (former C&R) Education Room, 855 Mankato Avenue, on Thursday, February 9, at 6:30 p.m.
The Look Good-Feel Better program was developed by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation in cooperation with the American Cancer Society and the National Cosmetology Association.
In general, the program offers information and guidance to help people in cancer treatment enhance their appearance. Specifically, it aims to:
"¢ help people with cancer understand that they are in charge of their appearance
"¢ increase the self-esteem and overall well-being of these individuals by helping them improve their appearance
"¢ create a nationwide resource of cosmetology professionals, health care professionals and American Cancer Society volunteers, to whom patients can turn for advice on improving their appearance.
The program consists of a short video presentation, as well as trained volunteer cosmetologists giving advice on how to conceal loss of hair, skin problems and other side effects that can result from cancer therapy. Makeup kits for patient's use will be provided by the National Cosmetology Association.
It is important to note that the Look Good - Feel Better Program does not:
"¢ interfere with patients' medical treatment or replace professional medical advice
"¢ promote any cosmetic product line or manufacturer
"¢ does not make any medical or physiological claims
Anyone interested should contact program coordinator Carol Orlowske, home phone 507-454-6414.
