Birdwatching Saturday (02/09/2006)
Join the Hiawatha Valley Audubon Society (HVAS) on Saturday, February 11th, for a morning of winter bird watching in comfort! HVAS members will lead a field trip to the Whitewater State Park headquarters building, where we will be able to spend a morning observing the park's impressive bird feeding station. The trip will depart Lake Park Lodge in Winona at 9:00 am. A state park vehicle permit is needed, but carpooling will be available. The trip is free and open to the public.
The Whitewater State Park feeders attract a wide variety of Minnesota songbird species, including Black-capped Chickadees, Northern Cardinal and Downey Woodpeckers. Large windows allow visitors to view these feeders from warmth and comfort, and HVAS members will be on hand to talk more about the species seen at the feeders.
