More than 800 youths 12 years old and younger have applied for turkey permits during Minnesota's 2006 spring gobbler hunting season.
The 2006 spring season will be the first time that youths under 12 can hunt wild turkeys in the North Star State.
Governor Tim Pawlenty signed HF847 in June after both houses of the Minnesota legislature passed the bill unanimously.
The law allows hunters of all ages to turkey hunt when accompanied by a parent or mentor.
Youth hunters are among the safest hunters in the nation according to hunter incident reports.
