The Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs of Lutheran Social Service (LSS) of Minnesota welcome a new supervisor. Sandy Olson will be assuming the responsibility effective April 1st. She has been a site coordinator with Catholic Charities Diocese of Winona since 2002 and will remain based in Winona. Olson's duties will include recruiting and supervising senior volunteers for the two programs in the southeast corner of Minnesota.
Olson said, "I look forward to expanding my responsibilities with the Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs in this area. Both programs are such win-win opportunities for our communities. They allow seniors to utilize their experiences and to feel they are valued and needed. For children, the Foster Grandparent Program gives them a chance to connect with older people who help them with their schoolwork and serve as their mentors. And for the frail elderly community members, Senior Companions provide an important support to assist them in remaining in their own homes for as long as possible."
The Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs enroll individuals 60 years of age and older. Volunteers are provided a tax-free stipend plus other benefits.
Interested individuals may contact Sandy Olson at 507.429.9389 or by e-mail sdolson@hbci.com.
