Eighty-five students in grades five through eight will convene at the Southeast Service Cooperative in Rochester to participate in the Regional Spelling Bee on Tuesday, February 21. The Spelling Bees will be start at 9:00 am and 1:00 pm and continue until the four top spellers have been determined. Almost 40 districts from southeast Minnesota are sending the winners of their local spelling bees.
Awards included trophies for all participants as well as savings bonds for the top four spellers. This event is made possible by the generous support of the Carl and Verna Schmidt Foundation. The Regional Spelling Bees across the state of Minnesota are coordinated and supported by the Service Cooperatives.
Minnesota will be sending four students to the 2006 Multi-Regional Spelling Bee in St. Cloud on March 28. The Multi-Regional Spelling Bee is sponsored by Forum Communications and the Timberwolves. The winner on the Multi-Regional Spelling Bee will then advance to the 78th annual Scripps Howard National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C.
