Winona’s March of Dimes Walk America March of Dimes Kick-Off (02/19/2006)
The Kick-Off reception for the Winona March of Dimes Walk America is scheduled Thursday, February 23rd from 11:30 am - 1:00 pm at Riverport Inn & Suites. The Kick-Off is for all returning team captains and any new persons interested in learning more about our Walk America coming May 13, 2006. This is an Open House style luncheon, courtesy of Winona Sandwich Co. and Riverport Inn, where captains will pick up team packets and other information about raising money for the March of Dimes, so stop by during your lunch hour when it's convenient.

Walk America is the largest outdoor fundraising event in the nation! And this, our 36th Anniversary year, will be better than ever! An estimated 225 Winona area residents will put on their walking shoes for healthier babies in 2006. Last year, Winona raised over $38,000to help save babies.

By joining WalkAmerica, you raise funds to save babies from premature births, birth defects, low birth weight and infant death. The March of Dimes is in it's fourth year of a five-year campaign to lower the percentage of premature babies in the United States, which touches so many of our lives! Did you know that one in every eight babies is born premature?

Incentive prizes for walkers include a free t-shirt for anyone earning $150 or more, a t-shirt plus a sweatshirt at the $250+ level, and continuing up to a $10,000 level (see collection envelope at Kmart or Home Federal Savings Bank for details).

Joining our successful fight to save babies include national sponsors Kmart, Cigna, Famous Footwear, FedEx and Farmers Insurance Group. Our regional sponsors include Home Federal Savings Bank and Treasure Island Resort & Casino. With RiverStar, Inc., Riverport Inn and Suites and other wonderful local sponsors, these dollars enable the March of Dimes to continue its 66-year track record of advances like surfactant therapy and folic acid education. We're "saving babies, together".

If you would like more information about starting a team, please call Colleen Peplinski at (507) 452-3259.
