Governor Tim Pawlenty today received notice from the federal Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that Minnesota has been granted a waiver and will receive federal funds covering prescription drug costs for low income Minnesotans impacted by problems with the federal Medicare Part D prescription drug program.
Federal action allows the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) to continue to pay pharmacies for out of pocket prescription drug costs for Minnesotans eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid through March 1, 2006. The CMS may extend the state's fix through March 8, as had been requested by the Governor, but that decision won't be made until Wednesday.
