Winona Senior High School sophomore and local skier Drew Donahue was a silver medal finalist at MSRL (Minnesota State Race League) alpine ski championships on Saturday Feb. 25th at Afton Alps. Over 350 skiers from the region competed in this annual event.
According to Tim Killness, Coffee Mills Ski Area coach, "Drew has put a lot of effort into his skiing this year. He has practiced hard and is so strong with his efforts and work ethic. They truly paid off. He is an excellent athlete and a very strong competitor. His mental toughness has helped him become one of the top competitors in the state."
Drew has two more years of competition in this league and is already showing the older racers he has what it takes to compete at a very high level.
Donahue had the fastest time on the hill in Giant Slalom and second fastest in Slalom. Only four hundredths of a second separated him and Tim Loudas the Gold Medal winner from Afton Alps Ski Area. Donahue finished the season with top three finishes in all but one race.
