After the dust settled on the Winona Senior High School's musical battlefield last Friday night, two student bands stood united in glory, co-winners due to a scoring mixup.
Apparently, the great battle was more of a peaceful. cooperative affair than originally expected.
Student groups Captain Trips and Tatsdm will both, thanks to the generosity of the local sponsors, receive recording time at Hardt's Music, band t-shirts from Quali-tee Screenprinting, and Trophies from First Place Trophies and Awards.
The hazy, low-lit battle atmosphere was to blame for the scoring mistake, student coordinator Chelsea Hinrichs reported.
"It was a high-pressure situation for the tabulators, with poor lighting and small calculators making their job difficult," she said. "We hope the bands and the audience understand how seriously we take this event, and that our recalculations prove that."
The battle drew over 1,000 attendees, including 150 volunteer workers.
"As cheesey as it sounds,' said event coordinator Sarah Johnson, "all of the Battle participants and volunteers were winners."
"We succeeded wildly at rockin' this town and showing off our remarkably talented youth," she said.
