Midwest Wireless awards grant (03/09/2006)

|
Thanks to Midwest Wireless' Community Caring Program, Hiawatha Valley Education District is receiving $500 to help fund the "A Celebration of Writing: A Young Authors' Conference."
The Conference, which originated in 1995, will again be held this year on the Winona State University campus May 11-12. Approximately 1,000 students in grades 3-8 will be in attendance. Students from the Winona public, private and charter schools in addition to sixteen surrounding school districts participate in this two-day event. Students will have an opportunity to learn about writing from published authors, illustrators and other communicators. The goal is to enable students to expand their creative horizons and improve their own writing abilities. The presenters will share secrets of their professions and gain an appreciation of young people's creative processes. The schools benefit from being able to expose students to a variety of professional communicators and from the residual enthusiasm that the students bring back to the classroom.
