All for self - best? (03/26/2006)
From: David Foss

Galesville, Wis.

We earned it! Every cent we earn is going to be spent on us! It's all ours! Ours! Ours! Why should we give away any of our hard-earned dinero to help someone else? We won't be nearly as happy if we - cheerfully- give some of our (?) money (everything we receive is from the Lord) for the relievement of others' burdens. If we keep every cent we earn and spend every cent that we possibly can on ourselves, then we will experience the apex of happiness. Right? Does a fawn have stripes? Those who are willing to share a portion of their income, to help those in need, are much happier than those who spend every penny on themselves. For those who are penny pinchers, giving even a little bitty bit is unthinkable or irrational.

Is it really possible to be happier with less? Ask those who are willingly giving to help meet the needs of others. These people are the happiest people on earth! They are the ones who are cheerfully sharing a portion of what God has given them with someone else. All such individuals would say, "We wouldn't be as happy if we did not share some of what God has given us to help lift the burdens of others." Galatians 6:10

Here is an example of lifting someone's burden. Someone has a small financial need of $100.00. Five couples were planning on going out for pizza and spending $20.00 each, but all the couples decided to give their $20.00 to meet this person's financial need. After having received this $100.00 this person will have become a happier person. The couples giving the money will not only experience the joy of giving, but God will bless them with an eternal reward for having done a good work. Revelation 22:12

If everyone gave as he or she should, much of the needless suffering of this world would come to a jubilant end. If we were the ones in need, wouldn't we wish that others would be concerned about our needs?

The trinkets, toys, bells and whistles of this world are actually robbing us of much joy. There is nothing wrong with material things, unless materialism restrains us from sharing with those who are less fortunate than ourselves. Remember if we give, both the givers' lives and the receivers' lives will become more joyous. The miraculous happens because it comes from God.

If we have never happily sacrificed by helping someone, try it! We'll like it! Our joy in life will be greatly increased, unless we give grudgingly. II Corinthians 9:7 After we experience the joy of giving, we will realize that all for self is not best.

Ponder I John 3:17
