Evelyn A. Stiehl Zirzow, age 86, of Alma, died Monday, May 1, 2006, at St. Mary's Hospital at Rochester.
Evelyn was born on March 30, 1920, in Arcadia, a daughter of the late August and Emma (Stressman) Guenther.
On January 1, 1997, Evelyn was united in marriage to Dyn Zirzow at St. John Lutheran Church. Dyn preceded Evelyn in death on December 4, 1997.
Many in the community will remember Evelyn for the 28 years she spent as the cook for the Alma schools. She would also clean the homes of teachers and other residents of Alma. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was an active vacation Bible school and Sunday school teacher, serving as the secretary and treasurer. Evelyn also enjoyed Bible study class. Other activities that Evelyn enjoyed included sewing, braiding rugs, quilting with her church members and especially making her wonderful poppy seed coffee cake.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Susan (Jerome) Krofta, of Wisconsin Rapids, Joan (Charles) Esser, of Madison, Jeannette (Daniel) Klasen, of Hudson, David (Judith) Stiehl and John (Holly) Stiehl, both of Alma; one stepson, Thomas Zirzow, of Alma; 9 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren; brothers, Willard Guenther, of Arcadia, Vernon Guenther, of Pine Island, MN; sister, Erna Comero of Alma; sister -in -law, Ellen Stiehl, of Alma and by nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband Dyn, Evelyn was preceded in death by her son, Richard in February of 2002, brother, Orville (Lorraine) Guenther and a stepbrother, David (LuAnn) Zirzow.
Funeral services for Evelyn were held on Friday, May 5, 2006 at 11:00 AM at St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Joel Bacon officiating. Burial followed at Buffalo City Cemetery.
