Sports Illustrated interested in WSHS student (12/07/2003)

Winona Area Public Schools has been informed that Garrett Heath, WSHS Senior, is a considered candidate for the Faces in the Crowd section of the December 15th edition of Sports Illustrated for his outstanding 2003 athletic accomplishments. In February 2003 Heath took all three Nordic Ski events in the Minnesota State Championship Meet (5K, Classic and Pursuit). In June 2003, Garrett claimed the state championships in the 1600 meter and 3200 meter Minnesota State Track and Field Meet. In November of 2003, Heath claimed the state Cross Country Championship with a state record winning time of 15:11. Heath was also the 2002 State Cross-Country Champion.
Garrett Heath, also a standout student, has signed a letter of intent to attend Stanford University in the Fall of 2004. He is one of only 32 high school males who earned the eligibility to participate in the National Cross Country Meet in San Diego, California on December 13. Heath is the son of Bob and Linda Heath of Winona.
