Fun with Forestry
7:00 PM Saturday, July 22
Be a forester for an evening! Forester Jon Sobiech will give you hands-on experience in using a variety of tools including an increment borer for aging trees, clinometers for measuring tree heights, angle gauge for determining the basal area, Biltmore stick for measuring diameters and a compass so you don't get lost. Then find out what it's like to cruise a forest using these tools. You'll also learn methods for taking these measures with tools you already have at home, and get to see samples of invasive species common to our area that have negative impacts on our forests.
This program is free and open to the public. The Houston Nature Center is located one block north of the intersection of Highways 16 and 76 in Houston on West Plum Street in Trailhead Park. For more information contact the nature center at 507-896-4668 or nature@acegroup.cc.
