Winona Health Foundation's Ben & Adith Miller Golf Classic to benefit the Ben & Adith Miller Patient Care Fund raised $150,000. The Miller Patient Care Fund is a unique community resource that helps individuals and families pay for unexpected medical expenses incurred while seeking care at Winona Health.
The fundraising event was held at Cedar Valley Golf Course and included a Youth Tournament, an 18-hole Main Event, and the Green Monster Challenge, a 9-hole scramble. Merchants Bank presented the Youth Tournament and the Green Monster Challenge. Brad Brewer, a professional golf instructor and Winona native, gave two golf exhibitions sponsored by Wells Fargo.
This year 214 individuals golfed in the event with many others attending the public exhibition or making a contribution to the event.
"We are very grateful for the support we receive from area businesses, community members and volunteers," said Nancy Brown, Winona Health Foundation executive director. "In particular, we are blessed that Hugh and Vera Miller and RTP Company have chosen to include the Ben & Adith Miller Patient Care Fund in their charitable giving. The efforts of RTP Company staff are unequaled and critical to the success of this event."
Brian Evenson, Joseph Kluck, Jerry Welle, and Christopher Zinn, sponsored by US Bank, won the Main Event. The Corporate Express team of Jim Ruppert, Jr., Jim Ruppert, Sr., and John Gruden won the Green Monster Challenge, and Brian Keane, Aaron Theis, Garrett Welle, and Frank Wychgram won the Youth Tournament.
The Ben & Adith Miller Patient Care Fund was established by Benjamin A. Miller, a former Winona-area businessman and philanthropist, in honor of his wife, Adith. Miller's goal was to establish a fund to help individuals and families in need pay for medical care at Winona Health.
