Pastors have feelings too! (09/17/2006)
From: David Foss

Galesville, Wis.

Should we expect every pastor of our church to be an exact clone of the former pastor? Should we expect all pastors' personalities to be exactly the same? Should we compare our present pastor with our former pastor? Should we expect every pastor to have a charismatic and dynamic personality?

We should realize that everyone is different and this includes pastors. We should never say, "Well, he just doesn't preach like so-and-so! He doesn't intermingle like pastor so-and-so! He doesn't have pastor so-and-so's personality! He doesn't explain everything as well as pastor so-and-so, etc.!

We could come up with a very long list of our-pastor-is-not-as pastor so-and-so, but we are not to be critics. We are not to judge.

Should our pastor compare the members of his present church with the members of his former church? Of course not! Would God be pleased with such comparison?: "They aren't as well-dressed as those in my former church! They aren't as attentive! They don't give as much! They aren't as friendly! They aren't as willing to help!" We can be sure that a pastor could come up with quite an extensive list about us also. Why? Because we aren't perfect either.

How would our pastor feel if he knew what we were thinking about him and saying about him to others? Would his spirits be uplifted? Would God be pleased or grieved? Would our thoughts and speech gain us reward or would we lost reward? After all, God knows our thoughts.

All of us appreciate nice things that have been said about us or nice things that have been spoken to us. We shouldn't say unpleasant or nasty things about our pastor; after all, pastors have feelings too.

Ponder Psalm 50:23 Philippians 2:14 I Timothy 6:6 Matthew 7:1
