People can expect something new at the Winona State University Warrior Club's annual Sports Auction being held Oct. 7 as part of WSU's Homecoming Weekend. The auction's location and start time are new, and so is a unique "Super Silent" auction section. For the first time in the event's 14-year history, the Warrior Sports Auction is coming "home" to the WSU campus. This year's auction event is being held in the new Kryzsko Commons Solarium.
The auction also starts earlier than ever before. The silent auction begins when the doors open at 4 p.m. Following a welcome and a short program at 5:30 p.m., live auction bidding will begin at 6 p.m. This year's live auction features vacation packages, sports memorabilia, event tickets and more. People are also encouraged to come early and get in their bids for items in a pair of new auction sections. The "Super Silent" auction section features great items that will only be up for bid until the live auction begins at 6 p.m. "Super Silent" auction items include electronics, high-valued gift certificates, sports collectibles and more.
A new "Instant Bid" section for several "Coach of the Day" with the Warrior athletic programs will also be available this year. With the new format, more opportunities to participate on the sidelines with all of the Warrior Club sports teams will be available. The "Instant Bid" format allows people to instantly pick the game(s) of choice for a set value and be a Warrior "Coach of the Day."
The auction raises money for the WSU Warrior Club Scholarship Fund. Last year, generous donors and auction bidders helped raise more than $40,000 with all proceeds going directly to fund student-athlete scholarships.
The Warrior Club Sports Auction is open to the public. Admission is $10, and includes an auction bid ticket, hors d'oeuvres, a sandwich buffet and cash bar.
