Whitewater owl banding program (11/08/2006)
Friday evening November 10, Whitewater State Park is conducting a northern saw-whet owl netting and banding program. Greg Munson, of Rochester's Quarry Hill Nature Center, will set up nets, play recordings of saw-whet owls and band those that are attracted and caught. Participants will get to help band the owls. Banding birds is always a memorable experience, but to do it at night for owls adds a whole new dimension. Find out more about owls and how banding helps wildlife researchers learn more about bird populations and their natural history, including where they go and how long they live. Hot drinks and treats will be provided.
This activity is free but Minnesota State Park vehicle permits are required. Daily permits are $7 and annual permits are $25. Call Whitewater State Park during weekday business hours at (507) 932-3007 extension 0 for additional information and reservations.
