Winstars win two in fall ball games (08/31/2003)
This last Sunday the Winona Winstars 16u Fastpitch softball team played in their first Fall Ball league games of the year. The girls traveled to Ft. Snelling and played 2 games on the impressive brand new softball complex there.

In game one the Winstars defeated Eden Prairie 7-0 as pitcher Bethany Wolvington hurled a 2- hitter and struck out 12 batters. Bethany also went 3-4 with a double and 1 sb. Amber Huntley hit 2 doubles over the cf head knocking in 2 runs. Rose Bublitz hit a laser down the lf line for a 2- bagger and Leah Hanson scored 2 runs, stole 2 bases and came up with 1 big hit. Jocelyn Fratzke and Karissa Jensen both also had hits in the game. Six different Winstars scored runs. Wolvington saved her shut out in the 5th inning on a nice defensive play. An Eden Prairie batter led off with a triple and the next batter laid down a perfect bunt that Wolvington fielded down the 3rd base line close to home, after looking to first and seeing she had no play Bethany looked to 3rd and seen that ss Huntley was behind the runner at 3rd Bang! Wolvington threw to Huntley and caught the Eden Prairie runner off the Base as Huntley supplied the tag and Eden Prairie never threatened again.

Game two was another well pitched game for the Winstars as they also won 3-2 over a Edina team who had a tough pitcher. Wolvington again led the way going 3-3 with a double and sb. Rose Bublitz ripped another rbi double in game two. Samantha Papenfus also smashed a double in the game. Leah Hanson, Karissa Jensen, Kate Kreuzer, and Julia Hefte all had hits in the game. Kate Kreuzer and Karissa Jensen split the game on the mound for the Winstars and both ladies threw well. They combined to give up only 3 hits and they stuck out 9 girls. The Winstars are back in action on Sept.7th in Shakopee, Mn.
