2007 Private Pesticide Recertification Workshops (01/17/2007)
by Jerrold Tesmer

U of Minn. Extesnion Service

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture and the University of Minnesota Extension Service have worked together to make positive changes for the Private Pesticide Applicator License program. Private Pesticide Applicator's who need to renew their applicator license will have a NEW option for renewing their license. Your option is to attend a 3-hour Pesticide Applicator Workshop, in lieu of taking the standard written test. The workshop will be similar to those offered in the past; however, you will need to attend the entire 3-hour workshop to qualify for this option. This option is only for those renewing their license.

Dean Herzfeld, Coordinator for Health, Environment, & Pest Safety for University of Minnesota Extension, has passed along the following requirements of the Minnesota Department of Agriculture for those attending the Private Pesticide Applicator Workshop:

Attendees should expect the workshop to last 3 _ hours. They should plan to arrive at or before the start time listed for the workshop to complete registration before the educational portion of the workshop begins.

If not currently certified (i.e. certified through March 1, 2007) then must take the test on-line or mail-in test packet available from local county extension office and cannot become certified by attending a Recertification Workshop.

Per MN Dept. of Ag policy attendees must attend the entire workshop to receive recertification credit. No exceptions to this requirement will be allowed. If can not attend the entire workshop may attended another workshop (must attend the entire workshop - not just parts missed) or take the exam on-line (at www.pat.umn.edu) or by picking up a test packet from local county extension office.

Per MN Dept. of Ag. policy all attendees must present two forms of identification: a government issued photo ID (drivers license, pass port, etc.) PLUS Private Applicator Certification Card received from the MDA (preferred) or another form of identification with their name such as a library card, credit card, utility statement etc.

Per MN Dept. of Ag. Policy all attendees should bring their current Private Pesticide Certification number with them to the workshop (on their Certification Card). If they misplaced their Certification Card they may obtain their certification number by going to the MN. Dept. of Ag. website (http://www.mda.state.mn.us/lis/default.htm) or by contacting MDA via phone at 651-201-6633.

The Workshop Code is to ID workshops through the registration process. Attendees will fill this code into the test ID field on the registration sheet.

The workshops and certification tests have the same fee of $50.00. Checks should be made out to the University of Minnesota. Sorry no credit cards can be accepted for the workshop fee.
