After years of learning his craft of bass fishing and entering numerous Minnesota bass fishermen tournaments, Tom Borkowski, a native of Goodview, Minnesota, has taken on the challenge of performing as a professional in the ESPN Outdoors Bass Master Series for National Championship.
He heads for Guntersville, Alabama this Saturday to enter as a contestant on Guntersville Lake on Monday, with the actual tournament Wednesday through Friday. He will compete with 56 boaters and non- boaters. With only 2 days of pre-fishing to aquaint the entrees with the lake, it will prove to be a tough contest.
Before taking this step, Tom gained in experience at tournaments on many Minnesota lakes, and in Canada. The Bass Times Magazine (Dec Issue) highlights the top 8 winners in Indiana at Patoka Lake Reservoir where he captured 5th of the top 8 in the 2006 Minnesota Bass Master Series-Northern Regional with only 3 fish at weigh-in. He wrote an article for Extreme Bass Magazine ‘Tournament Schedules'(‘02) (title: Boat Traffic), and gave seminar to a Boy Scout Troop.
Though Tom is now a resident of Savage, Minnesota, he claims as his first ‘fishing hole', Bartlett's Lake (Goodview/Winona) where many young boys discovered their love of fishing. Upon retirement after 20 years as a sheet-metal worker, Tom's goal is a career as fishing guide. His family and parents, Jim and Dana Borkowski,(Gdvw), send him off with ‘well wishes' and prayers for a grand trip.
